Project: ‘English for Communities’

The project ensures implemenation of the community-level schools-based activities through the establishment of English Clubs to help vulnerable young children from these regions attend extra curricular activities free of charge and take part in competitions and events organised as a part of the project. New English Clubs wiere established through the provision of resource materials, relevant technology and the training of club coordinators.
To ensure the English Clubs are set up and run effectively, training courses were developed and delivered for teachers responsible for running the clubs. Teachers were equipped with the knowledge, skills and resources to run exciting, engaging and innovative club activities to develop confidence and fluency in English. In addition, there there was a focus on the development of the students’ debating and negotiation skills. Clubs also got the opportunity to utilise the Gender Equality resources. Students learnt about gender equality and explored the impact of gender roles and responsibilities, stereotypes and expectations and started thinking about how these influence girls’ and boys’ opportunities and lives.
